What Is Threading

Tapping is the process of using a tap to cut internal threads into the hole of a workpiece.

(2) Pitch: The axial distance between two adjacent teeth on the pitch line of a thread.

(3) Lead: The axial distance between the corresponding points of two adjacent teeth on the same spiral line. Represented by the code S.

(4) The nominal diameter of threads: Except for pipe threads, which are measured in inches based on the inner diameter of the pipe, the nominal diameter of all other threads is measured in metric units based on the larger diameter of the thread.

(5) Thread pitch diameter: The pitch diameter is the most important because it controls the fit and strength of all thread assemblies. The pitch diameter is on the pitch line, and the tooth width at this position is consistent with the adjacent tooth groove width.
