When most people hear the word hexagon holes, they think of screws with them. Sws are essential for assembling a variety of items, from bicycles to chairs, tables and shelves. Do you know how to drill the hexagon hole accurately?

Drilling of hexagonal holes requires a metalworking technique called "hexagonal hole processing". This is a simple process for drilling hexagonal holes, but there are many ways to do it. Each processing method has its own advantages and disadvantages, such as mass production, cheap price, etc., so according to the different materials and processing conditions and have different use methods.

This time we'll introduce how to open the hexagon hole and what to fit.

1The hexagonal hole is processed by stamping processing

Stamping processing is the simplest hexagonal hole processing. This is a processing method of pre-drilling the circular bottom hole and then using the mold to apply strong pressure from above to expand the circular hole into a hexshape. Two steps, drilling the guide hole and then pressing, but the process itself is simple and suitable for mass production. It is not suitable for non-standard support, such as creating special templates or small-scale production, because it increases the cost.

When pressing, the scraped part will accumulate at the bottom of the hexagon hole, so an additional positioning hole is needed. Furthermore, since the hole is formed under load, the shape may collapse depending on the hardness of the material and the way the load is applied.

2 Process the hexagon hole using a lathe

Processing hexagonal holes using a lathe seems a strange phenomenon because when applying a cutting tool to a rotating lathe, hexagonal holes are created instead of circles, but the cutting is based on reasonable theory.

First, tilt the drill bit to about 1 degree and then press it on the metal so that only a portion of the drill bit touches the metal. Then, adjust the speed of the drill bit to the lathe, turning each corner.

It has the advantage of being able to process conditions that are difficult to process, and hexagonal holes of different sizes can be created by changing tools. Although it has high precision and can be processed in a very short delivery time, it is difficult to cope with complex requirements and is not suitable for mass production.

3 Using a pull knife to process the hexagonal holes

Pulpping is a processing method that processing holes into hexshapes by pulling out a cutting tool called a pull knife and passing bolts through it. Although dedicated to the open hole, but with limited use, but high accuracy and can be processed in a short time, suitable for mass production.

Although the processing time of each product is very short, it is difficult to meet the short delivery time because of the need to make special blades for each product. Furthermore, we cannot process holes smaller than the maximum size that can be made into a cutter.

4 Hexagon hole processing by tooth processing

The hexagonal hole is generally drilled a circular guide hole on the lathe, and then use the 120 degree household base milling cutter when the lathe stops rotating, the hexagonal Angle one by one cut molding. By stamping. Unlike stamping processing, it has the advantage that the effective depth of the hexagonal hole can be adjusted to the limit of the depth of the processed hole. Moreover, since no special templates or tools are used, hexagonal holes of different sizes can be created relatively easily simply by replacing the tool.

5 Use the porholes using a slot holes

The tool shaped like the side of the hexagonal hole is pressed vertically on the workpiece material with the guide hole to process the material from the circle to a hexagonal shape. After completing one side, rotate it 60 degrees and repeat the next side to the next side. Suitable for the hexagonal hole with high machining accuracy requirement, it can obtain accurate and beautiful finish.

Because it can process any size suitable for the prepared hole, it is more flexible and can handle different sizes of holes or large sizes that are difficult to suppress. However, because the processing needs a certain amount of time, it is not suitable for mass production.

6. Discharge processing and hexagon hole processing

In the discharge processing, a high voltage discharge is applied to the workpiece to melt the metal during the processing. It can process any conductive metal, suitable for processing hard metals such as ultra-high alloy difficult to process.

The surface finish is not very good because the material melts during processing. Moreover, because each process takes quite a long time, so the unit price of the product is quite high. However, discharge processing is the processing method required under certain conditions, because of its high accuracy, and it may be able to meet the requirements even if other processing methods fail.
