Investigation of the main risk factors in the painting workshop

There are many dangerous factors in the painting workshop. Today, I would like to share some easy accident types, existing risk factors and preventive measures, nip in the bud, quickly start to check the equipment!

Ventilation in the painted work area

Type of accidents prone to occur: fire, poisoning and asphyxiation, and other explosions

Large risk factors: poor ventilation leads to poisoning and asphyxiation, insufficient air volume leads to the accumulation of flammable items and causes fire and explosion.

Main preventive measures:

(1) The filter cotton of the ventilation device should be replaced in time, and the air duct should be cleaned regularly to prevent pollutant deposition and ensure the micro-negative pressure in the coating room.

(2) The powder electrostatic spraying ventilation pipe should maintain a certain wind speed, and there should be a good grounding, to prevent the dust accumulation after the spark explosion.

Pre-chemical treatment

Type of accident prone to occur: fire, other explosions

Large risk factor: use low flash point items to remove old paint, high temperature objects or sparks resulting to explosion and fire.

Main preventive measures:

(1) benzene should not be used in the pretreatment operation, and should not be used in toluene, xylene and gasoline, and should not use the water (the main components are xylene, propyl benzene, dimethoxymethane).

(2) When using organic solvents to remove oil and old paint, flammable and explosive substances should not be stored within 15m around the working point.

Coating deployment

Type of accident prone: other explosions

Main preventive measures:

(1) The indoor should use no burning, no ignition ground, and the number of ventilation times should be 15 times / h~25 times / h.

(2) All the electrical equipment in the room shall be explosion-proof type, and the combustible gas detection and alarm device shall be installed, and the automatic fire extinguishing system shall be installed in the large paint control room.

(3) When the amount of solvent type coating is less (generally less than 20kg), it can be prepared in the paint area, but the safety operating procedures should be strictly observed.

Large risk factor: static electricity generated sparks ignite combustible gas and cause fire and explosion.

Main preventive measures:

(1) Painting equipment, paint supply container and paint transfer pipeline shall be equipped with reliable electrostatic removal device, and the personnel entering the painting room shall accept electrostatic elimination disposal.


(2) The combustible gas concentration detection and alarm device in the spray paint room should be interlocking with the automatic stop material supply, cut off the power supply device, the automatic fire extinguishing device, etc.

(3) The ventilation pipe associated with the electrostatic spray paint room should be installed with automatic fire control valve.

Spray and dry dual-use spray paint room

Type of accident that is easy to occur: fire and explosion

Large risk factors: fire and explosion caused by high temperature objects and sparks.

Main preventive measures:

(1) The surface of the spray paint room should be cleaned frequently to reduce the deposition of combustible materials.

(2) The painting equipment, drying equipment, ventilation system and electric heating system should be interlocking with detection and alarm device, and the heating system should be interlocking with temperature control device. When the drying equipment is in operation or live, the painting equipment shall be locked or removed together.

(3) All flammable and combustible items should be removed before the operation of the drying equipment.

(4) The ignition and extinguishing protection device using the gas heating system should be sensitive and reliable.

Type of accident that is easy to occur: fire and explosion

Large risk factors: the accumulation of combustible gas around the tank is caused by high temperature objects or sparks, no emergency device, and the harm of fire and explosion in emergency.

Main preventive measures:


(1) When the volume of the immersion tank exceeds 2m³, the bottom discharge device and transfer tank should be set up, and the bottom discharge pipe should be able to drain the tank liquid within 5min.

(2) Open small tank with volume less than 0.6m³ or liquid surface area less than 1 ㎡ shall be equipped with cover plate or special fire extinguishing device, and large immersion tank with volume greater than 0.6m³ or liquid surface area more than 1 ㎡ shall be equipped with foam and gas fire extinguishing system.

(3) The combustible gas alarm device should be installed in the immersion and coating area.

(4) The paint immersion tank shall be equipped with air exhaust device.

Large risk factors: flammable and explosive gases in the operation site lead to explosion, toxic and harmful gases lead to poisoning and suffocation.

Main preventive measures:

(1) Assess the working environment, formulate the operation plan, go through the corresponding approval procedures, and set up monitoring personnel.

(2) The reliable partition (isolation) of the equipment and the space with toxic and harmful substances that may be endangered from the operation area; the containers and pipes containing combustible or toxic and harmful substances must be cleaned and replaced, and shall be removed to the ground for maintenance.

(3) The operation must be ventilated and monitored. When the combustible or toxic and harmful substances are within the allowable limit before entering the operation site. When the operation is interrupted for more than 30 minutes, it should be re-tested.

(4) Lighting fixtures and tools should be low voltage or leakage protection device, when there is combustible gas and dust, electrical facilities should meet the explosion-proof requirements.

(5) The operation area should be delimited, warning signs should be set up to keep the entrances and exits unblocked, and non-operating personnel are not allowed to enter the operation site.

(6) Energy locking device should be used during maintenance, and special personnel should be set up for monitoring, and on-site monitoring personnel should stick to their posts.

Maintenance operation

Large risk factors: electrical sparks cause combustible gas leading to fire or explosion. Poor ventilation leads to poisoning and asphyxiation, and insufficient air volume leads to the accumulation of flammable goods and cause fire and explosion.

Main preventive measures:


(1) Effective exhaust system and gas purification device shall be set up in the painting operation area, and organic waste gas direct exhaust device shall be set up before the purification device.

(2) Filters shall be set after the direct emptying device and before the purification device. The filter material should be replaced in time, and the air duct and filter should be cleaned regularly to prevent the deposition of pollutants (all kinds of coating production lines and waste gas treatment equipment manufacturers: Fan 13141458653 WeChat same).

Type of accident-prone: explosion

Large risk factor: electrostatic spark leads to dust explosion

Main preventive measures:

(1) Fire alarm device and automatic fire extinguisher system should be installed in the powder spraying room, which should be interlocked with the control device to close the compressed air, cut off the power supply, and start the automatic fire extinguisher and stop the transmission of workpiece.


(2) The dust removal system shall comply with the requirements of the Safety Technical Code for Dust Removal System in Dust Explosion Dangerous Places (AQ4273). The dust removal system shall not use positive pressure to blow dust, and the explosion discharge device or inert measures shall be adopted according to the specifications.

(3) The shell of the electrostatic spray gun and its auxiliary devices shall meet the "IP54" protection grade specified in the Shell Protection Grade (IP Code) (GB4208).

(4) The metal members, electrostatic spray gun, air pipe, recovery device, dust collector, electrical equipment and electronic control device set in the powder spraying area shall be equipped with effective grounding connection according to the requirements of anti-static measures.
